In the connector industry, we often encounter the terms connector, plug, Jack, port, socket and slot, which are very easy to confuse. Today, Linko connector has sorted out the differences between these words!
1、 What is a plug
The plug is part of the cable that connects to the port. The plug is always connected to something else (for example, a jack or port). For example, the most common plug is the power plug that connects the device to the power supply. The picture is a common Lingke power plug, which must be another triangle plug, directly connected to the wall socket, and Lingke's plug end can be connected to the equipment end.
Cable and cord
A cable or wire is one or more wires in a plastic covering that allows the transmission of power or data between devices. The following figure is an example of the Linko RJ45 aviation plug.
A wire wire wire is a single strand of metal, such as copper, or an optical fiber that can transfer power or data from one area to another.
2、 What is a connector
A connector is also called a connector. Also known as connector and socket in China, it generally refers to electrical connector. The device that connects two active devices to transmit current or signal. For example, all devices have a socket end with wires directly connected to the device board end. When it comes to cables, the connector is the end of the cable that connects to the port. For example, the end of the USB cable has a connector that can be connected to the USB port.
3、 Port (port)
"Port" is the free translation of English port, which can be considered as the outlet of communication between equipment and the outside world. The port can be divided into virtual port and physical port, where virtual port refers to the port inside the computer or switch router, which is not visible. For example, port 80, port 21, port 23, etc. in the computer. Physical port, also known as interface, is a visible port, RJ45 network port of computer backplane, switch router hub and other RJ45 ports. RJ11 socket is also a physical port for telephone.
4、 Jack
A jack, similar to a port, is a hole or other connection that allows a compatible plug to connect to the jack. For a computer, the jack is usually used to describe the audio jack.
5、 Adapter
An adapter is a device that can convert power or data from one input source to another. For example, an AC adapter used with laptops and other devices receives AC power and converts it to DC power.
6、 Socket
Socket, also known as power socket, switch socket. Socket refers to a socket with one or more circuit wiring pluggable, through which various wiring can be inserted. It is an opening designed for other equipment. This facilitates connection to other circuits. Through the connection and disconnection between the circuit and the copper parts, the final connection and disconnection of this part of the circuit can be achieved.
7、 Slot
Slots are also connections used with computers, and can describe CPU slots or expansion slots. Today, the CPU socket is used instead of the CPU socket, but the expansion socket is still used to connect the expansion card to the computer.
